I am forever grateful for the challenges that life has gifted me with.  Without experiencing those toughest times in my own life, my work would still be solely related to fitness and nutrition and I would not be in a place to give any of the content on this page.

In 2016 I was on top of the world, my dedication had paid off and I was one of the most sought-after body transformation coaches in the world.  But then, everything changed, and it changed traumatically.  But I am so glad now that it did!  You see, quite frankly I lost it!  I wasn’t prepared for the health issues that would stop me from being able to train for the best part of that year and what happened next almost killed me, it should have killed me!  Suicidal, surviving an attempted overdose, anxiety, panic attacks, agony for my friends and family and finally surviving a car crash at 130mph.  That’s when it hit me and, in a moment, everything changed. It was no-longer about the transformation photos; it was about how I could make people feel!  What had happened? I had to figure it out, figure out what had taken place within my own mind; an instant transition from suicidal to being full of gratitude to be alive, to be able to positively impact lives in the way I could and grateful for all that life consisted of – I had to know what had happened within my mind…

The obsession that had allowed someone without any genetic gifts to reach the top of the fitness industry was now an obsession for understanding the human mind. That’s enough background! That story can be heard in full for those who wish to on the podcast episode given below, which highlights another one of life’s magical moments as the host of that podcast is Jamie Keeling. Jamie, would later become not only a dear friend, but also my co-host on the Stoicism for Modern Life podcast; from which we are blessed to receive messages from listeners to let us know the positive impact that show too has had on their lives. Whether you are suffering much like I did, or just wish to improve any aspect of your life, I sincerely hope that the content on this page can help you in the same way it has many others!

From the Human Behaviour, Psychology and Mental Health show

My objective with this episode is to use the simile I had been working on in order to present a clear means for anyone to understand what happens to their own psychology following a traumatic experience and thus how to overcome and thrive once more!

It is easy in the modern world, with all the social constructs, material objects and all other constructs of the human imagination, to forget exactly how we are designed to function as a species genetically. What is in our DNA at the most primitive level does not just control our actions in those times we all know of - ie the stress response and times of danger, but how it is is constantly operating and dictating our thoughts and actions. How things that may appear random are actually the result of our foundational building blocks as with any other animal, but the development of the human brain has confused us in regards to just how the survival mechanism too has evolved to the world we have created. Is it far more important to our lives and particularly mental health than we have been led to believe?

Thoughts that bother you! Your reactions to things that are said which invoke negative emotions are only so because of our own beliefs, perceptions and previous wounds. What can the thoughts though and emotions we feel relating to things others say of or to us tell us about ourselves? Also learn why things that provoke those emotions will continue to be brought into your life until you understand what your reaction to them is really trying to tell you!

The Stoicism for Modern Life podcast with Jamie Keeling

Coercive Control is a major cause of suicide and most don't even spot it until its too late! Even the latest UK Government reports admit a huge lack of understanding in this area and it is extremely complex! But having experienced myself (twice!) to extreme degrees, I can say that if it were not for my own love of philosophy and ability to give myself the needed psychoanalytical therapy, I would have taken my own life - and I have experienced a lot as listeners know! Maybe, this is why it was me who suffered those experiences of what is a psychological attack; to now use that wisdom to be able give the world an understanding of coercive control like no other with the aid of my incredible cohost Jamie, starting with this episode!

We select a passage that runs alongside Jamies story from episode 12 and 13 to look at the importance of our role and transitioning from that moment of not wanting to face the day to thriving as the challenge is overcome.
